ABOUT THE FOUNDER

ABHI TILIP

Masters in Design (UK)

As a Creative Director turned fashion entrepreneur, I had always looked at fashion as an outlet for self expression of her love. It was more about the ability to tell stories by combining fabric, color and texture.

I had good fortune to work in the sets of textile industry at Germany, where I totally loved myself playing around visuals merchandising and styling.  But learning more and more about the various facades of fashion, I learnt that I could no longer continue with my micro perspective and focus merely with my fascination in designing. For instance, we use natural resources to make 80 billion garments, which is worn hardly 9-10 times before discarding them, this is equivalent to 1 garbage truck of textiles wastage every second. What shook me more is that, it takes 200 years to break down polyester/ rayon and other fabrics. I understood the vulnerability of how fast fashion brands are one of the major cause that clothing industry has been labelled as one of the largest polluting industry.

“We always thought why someone didn’t do something about that. Then we realized we were that somebody.”

At a very early point, as I learnt that design was about finding solutions and purpose, I stuck myself to a niche of producing collections with sensible fabrics to our best. As a team today, we stretch our hands to source more from the export houses where excessively produced fabric piles end up as landfills. Doing this we did possibly optimise wastage and contribute to better climatic change. Not giving it a doubt that small group of thoughtful committed individuals can change the world a lot better. Today, with emphasis on minimalism, we make sure we are soft, snug-gable, enabling our kids to move around effortlessly.  I strongly believe, I could only treat fashion as a therapy to create our timeless collections incorporate practical clothing for everyday use and special occasions at the same time.

Astilbe was born as I started making clothes for my new born after a strong disappointment in finding cosy and comfortable clothing during pandemic. Behind every independent girl, there is an open minded dad who trusted her and not the society. Little did I wait, I started off in a 6x8ft space which has now grown hundred times bigger and better. Knowing the functionality of fabrics and having international experience with textiles, I pushed myself to bring in quality clothing line with a high degree of style for every other kid as like mine.

All of this is only possible when we chose the right material and this is where I urge more entrepreneurs and more organisation to think about circularity while they design a product. Everybody has to start somewhere.

With emphasis on minimalism, our clothing collection are made of flexible and clean natural fibers. We make sure we are soft, snug-gable, enabling our kids to move around effortlessly.
